INFORMATION: Pierre Soulages said he began painting trees and their bare branches at the age of seven, and was interested in the abstract interweaving of vertical and horizontal bands based on the figure of the tree. This was also the case for Piet Mondrian and later Jean Bazaine. From this figure, Mondrian derived his orthogonal grid; Bazaine a flexible grid through which bursts of light filtered by the branches pierce. Soulages, for his part, never depicted the silhouette of the tree. He retained its structural energy and the way in which the plant structure occupies the surrounding space.

Very good condition, minor handling defects, slightly reduced margins
