Marc Chagall's illustrations for the story "Odyssey" are a tribute to Homer's epic. Chagall himself visited Greece twice and was greatly inspired by ancient mythological motifs during his travels.
Circe was a sorceress in Greek mythology, the daughter of Helios (the sun god) and Perseis, a nymph. She was able to create magical potions that transformed people, as in the Odyssey, where she transformed Odysseus's crew into pigs.
