INFORMATION: This photograph comes from Paul Eluard's personal collection. Professor Jacques Millot details the provenance and origin of these prints: "from Eluard's library, for whom these photographs probably served as inspiration for the composition of his poems. No. 458 of the Swiss sale of May 13/14, 1958... It is also likely a first illustration project, smaller than the one published [in the original 1937 edition]."
This photograph bears the stamp "Man Ray, 8 rue du Val de Grâce, Paris 5e, France, Danton 92-25" on the back (stamp used between 1929 and 1940)
